Think someone might have went a little overboard in free agency.

-$289M in cap space.

I mean... that's it? There are no repercussions to being almost $300M over the cap? For as detailed as this game is, I'm surprised free agent bids aren't deducted from your available cap to prevent this from even happening. Or that you're allowed to propose and complete trades while over the cap.

What's to stop everyone next off-season from putting 6-year max bids on every viable free agent if they can then just churn those players out for upgrades and draft picks? It looks like the only ramification is you can't sign/resign players, but what does that matter if you have everyone locked up for 6 years and a wealth of assets?

It doesn't matter until the preseason starts. Then I have to be under the cap and down to 60 players. So most non essential players on my team are available for super cheap right now if anyone wants to take advantage. As long as I get something I can use in return.

I mean... the salary cap is $184M. You're $279M over right now with $37M and $184M in dead cap over the next 2 seasons and 68 players that still need to be traded/cut before pre-season. Those figures are going to skyrocket after that and will easily clear the salary cap without even accounting for the player salaries. Unless there's some unique game mechanism I'm not privy to, I have no idea how you get out of that hole without the commissioner clearing your dead cap.

In a normal league yes but one of the quirks to this agro league is the commissioner will clear the dead cap.

I’m out if that happens. Ironmen just won the Super Bowl and signed nearly every viable free agent (97 of them) to 5-6 year deals. He’s been churning those players out for upgrades and draft picks and if he gets off scott free then this isn’t the league for me. As far as I’m concerned, it was all intentional and any consequences were self-inflicted.

after the glitch in week 16 of last season i learned it will be best to clear dead cap space for each team once per cycle. that period will be during three day pause before free agency

the cap space clearing is not intended to act as a bail out, but as a courtesy. owners should not plan on exploiting the clear dead cap space courtesy in order to accumulate draft picks

the period for cap space clearing is noted in the "Welcome to Anything Goes RO" sticky note in league forums

I understand. But Ironmen absolutely and intentionally (whether he had the foresight or not) destroyed that team and there's a 0% chance he gets under the salary cap in either of the next 2 seasons (or more) without you clearing his dead space outside of the window you indicated.

If he gets to keep all of the assets he's acquired from the 5 trades he's already made and all of the 97 free agents he signed (that also prevented 90% of the league from improving their rosters), then that's the very definition of a bailout and exploiting that courtesy for personal gain. And if all he gets is a verbal warning/slap on the wrist, what's to stop me and the rest of the league from doing this very same thing the next free agency period?

Would you kick us out of the league? Would you, as the commissioner, release those acquisitions? Enforce it now so it doesn't become a problem in the future. The first person to do it shouldn't get off scot-free with a massive competitive advantage while everyone after gets punished for doing the same thing.
